Prof. Boryana Parashkevova, vice-rector of Thrace University, was a guest speaker in informational meetings with students from Burgas schools on the occasion of December 1 - World AIDS Day. Prof. Parashkevova - an expert in the field of public health and medical ethics, as well as coordinator of the Bulgarian Association for Family Planning and Sexual Health - was joined by Prof. Vanya Slavova from the Faculty of Medicine, a specialist in disaster medicine

The purpose of the meetings, organized by the local RZI in partnership with the Municipality of Burgas and a number of non-governmental organizations, was to reach a wider range of young people and increase their awareness of the ways in which a person can become infected with HIV. Knowledge and information, as an element of HIV prevention, are one of the strongest prerequisites for implementing a change that starts from the attitudes and behavior of the individual and has an impact at the level of community and health culture.
