40 years of the Department of Microbiology and Round Table on Antibiotics and Antibiotic Resistance
On the occasion of the European Day for the Correct Use of Antibiotics, November 18, and 40 years since the opening of the Department of Microbiology at the Ministry of Education of TU, Stara Zagora, the professors of the Microbiology section organized a Round Table on Antibiotics and Antibiotic Resistance.
The Department of Microbiology at VMI was founded on 1.11.1983. For 40 years since its establishment, the department has trained more than 17,000 students in the disciplines: Microbiology and Clinical Microbiology of Bulgarian and English-speaking master's students in medicine (from 2014); bachelors in nursing and midwifery, medical laboratory assistants, and later medical assistants, assistant pharmacists, medical cosmetics. магистри по медицина, български и англоговорящи ( от 2014 г ) ; бакалаври специалност медицинска сестра и акушерка , медицински лаборанти, а по-късно лекарски асистенти, помощник фармацевти, медицинска козметика.
A date where we take stock and send a message to our students.
The anniversary also coincided with the Week for the Wise Use of Antibiotics and 18 November, the European Day for Awareness and Correct Use of Antibiotics. 18 Ноември, Европейски ден за осведоменост и правилна употреба на антибиотици. We decided to combine the two occasions in a Round Table on the problems of antibiotic use and antibiotic resistance.
We invited our colleagues, former assistants, laboratory workers, our students, colleagues, to the organized scientific conference on topics related to the correct use of antibiotics, antibiotic resistance, new antibiotics and new approaches.
7 presentations were given on resistance mechanisms, new approaches in the fight against antibiotic resistance, Quorum sensing inhibitors, etc. The presentations of students, 3rd course Medicine on problems of Quorum Sensing, Probiotics, new molecules and new antibiotics, biofilm formation in P.aeruginosa, etc. were extremely interesting. , presented by: Dimitar Georgievski and Nikolay Petrov, Samuil Stanev and Debora Georgieva and Vyara Ivanova. The participation of our students and future colleagues gives us confidence that interest in the science and problems of antibiotic use will ensure their correct use.
This day, dedicated to the two important occasions, ended with the presentation of 2 new antibiotics against Gram (-) and Gram (+) resistant bacteria to clinicians from UMBAL: "Prof. Dr. St. Kirkovich"
The message we send as teachers and clinical microbiologists will surely find a good following.
