Museum of the Horse and Equestrian Sport - Thracian University Stara Zagora

The Horse and Equestrian Museum has almost half a century of history. It was opened on March 6, 1971. at the Higher Agricultural Institute - Sofia by General Vladimir Stoychev, Chairman of the Bulgarian Olympic Committee. The founder of the museum is Prof. Rangel Karaivanov. Stara Zagora after the relocation of the Faculty of Zootechnics.

History

The Horse Museum was opened in Sofia by Gen. Vladimir Stoychev - then chairman of the BOK in 1971 as part of the Higher Agricultural Institute. In 1974, after the relocation of the Zootechnical Faculty in Stara Zagora, thanks to prof. The exposition of carriages related to the Third Bulgarian Kingdom was transferred here. In 2010, on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the Thracian University - Stara Zagora, the Museum of the Horse and Equestrian Sport was officially opened. The museum exhibits, kept by the former Department of Horse Breeding with a horse base and hippodrome, are original, restored and arranged by prof. They are arranged, restored and arranged by Ilija Dimitrov and can be freely accessed.

Small hall

In the small hall, the collection introduces us to the development of horse breeding, the different breeds of horses and the development of equestrian sport in Bulgaria from the recent past until today. There are books, magazines, teaching aids and photographs related to best practices in horse breeding and equestrian sport. A highlight is the collection of books from Tsar Ferdinand's personal library, written between 1893 and 1895 by the Prussian-born Count Wrangel, one of the most famous 19th-century hipologists, who described in detail the development of horse breeding in Austria-Hungary during this period.

Large hall

In the large hall you will be transported to the time of the Third Bulgarian Kingdom and its rulers - Prince Alexander I Battenberg, Tsar Ferdinand, Tsar Boris III and Simeon II. You will experience historical relics made by some of the most famous carriage makers in Europe in the 19th century: Henry Binder (Paris), ,,Jacob Lohner & Co" (Vienna), ,,Hooper & Co" (London).

Working hours

The museum is open to visitors every working day from 9.00 to 16.00.
For group visits advance requests are accepted from the museum curator
