The Faculty of Education of Trakia University was established by a Decree of the Council of Ministers of 03.07.2002. It is the heir of the best pedagogical traditions of the country and the city, dating back to the Bulgarian Revival, during which Stara Zagora was named by the Bulgarian historian, pedagogue, writer and public figure Dimitar Strashimirov "Oxford in Southern Bulgaria". Last year, the educational tradition in Stara Zagora marked 180 years since the founding of the first mutual new Bulgarian secular school, which was housed in the building of the cell school of the church "St. Nicholas" and was named after it. Gradually, the St. Nicholas School established itself as a leader in the city and the region.
The beginning of the pedagogical education in Stara Zagora is associated with the name of Anastasia Tosheva. In the spring of 1857 she returned to Stara Zagora and in September opened a school for girls at the church of St. Dimityr. Later, in 1863 she opened an all girls' school in Stara Zagora and attracted more women as teachers there. In 1881 - on the recommendation of Joakim Gruev she took over the management of the newly opened All Girls' High School in Stara Zagora. For ten years, until 1892, when she was sent into retirement, Anastasia Tosheva turned the high school into one of the best in the new Bulgaria. It had the reputation as one one of the best-arranged all-girls' schools and attracted students from distant places. It prepared the highest percentage of teachers for all girls' schools in Bulgaria.
Currently, the Faculty of Education offers 8 specialties for Bachelor's degree and 5 for Master's degree for students from all over Bulgaria.
