Trakia University – Stara Zagora and the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS) signed a Strategic Cooperation Agreement, laying the foundations for long-term and targeted partnership in the fields of education, scientific research, and innovation. The document was signed by the Rector of Trakia University, Prof. Dr. Miroslav Karabaliev, and by the President of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Corr. Member Prof. Evelina Slavcheva.
The signing of the agreement is fully aligned with the priorities and objectives of the National Strategy for the Development of Scientific Research in the Republic of Bulgaria 2017–2030 and is aimed at strengthening the country’s scientific and educational potential. Particular emphasis is placed on the development and effective use of modern research infrastructure, improving the quality and applicability of scientific research, and enhancing the links between science, higher education, business, and society.
The strategic partnership provides for the expansion and deepening of joint activities between the two institutions through the creation of a creative and productive academic environment based on the sharing of expertise, resources, and best practices. Within the framework of the agreement, joint initiatives will be developed in key scientific fields of high public and economic significance, including hydrogen technologies and hydrogen energy, smart agriculture and livestock farming, biotechnology and quality of life, as well as digitalization, automation, and robotization. Separate bilateral protocols will be signed for each of these areas, specifying the forms and mechanisms of cooperation.
Particular attention in the memorandum is given to the joint development of innovative and interdisciplinary doctoral programs, the establishment of models for general and specific competencies in doctoral education, as well as the encouragement of doctoral candidates, postdoctoral researchers, and early-career scientists in their professional and academic development. The agreement also предусматри the organization of joint scientific and educational forums, the exchange of library and information resources, and the creation of shared academic positions of the “researcher–lecturer” type.
The signed agreement is valid for a period of five years, with the possibility of automatic extension, and establishes a stable framework for future specific contracts and projects, including those involving financial arrangements.
With this memorandum, Trakia University – Stara Zagora and the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences declare their shared vision for the development of competitive higher education and science at a European and global level, oriented toward the sustainable development of the regions and the addressing of significant national and global challenges.
