The educational process at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine is carried out in accordance with Directives 2005/36 / EC and 2013/55 / ​​EC of the European Parliament and the Ordinance (adopted by Council of Ministers № 17 of the Council of Ministers of 28.01.2016) on uniform state requirements for higher education. educational qualification degree "Master" in the specialty "Veterinary Medicine".

The training in veterinary medicine lasts 5.5 years or 11 semesters, of which 10 with classes and one for undergraduate internship and is carried out according to an approved curriculum. In the first three years, students attend theoretical and practical classes in basic, zootechnical, preclinical and some clinical disciplines taught through lectures, seminars, laboratory and / or practical exercises. In the last two years of the course the students have been participating in practical classes in compulsory clinical disciplines conducted in the only university clinical-diagnostic complex in Bulgaria. In addition, students participate in mobile clinics and training practices in farms and enterprises of the food industry, thus acquiring the full knowledge and skills necessary for their professional realization as veterinarians.

During their studies, students study a number of elective courses, and for each semester they must prefer at least one course, which once chosen becomes mandatory. In this way, students form an additional set of knowledge by building their own qualifications.

In the process of study, each student accumulates 360 credits according to the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS), of which 300 for extracurricular and extracurricular activities for the studied disciplines and 60 for undergraduate internships and graduation.

The form of training is regular, and graduates receive a professional qualification - "veterinarian", which is valid in all Member States of the European Union.

Realization

The solid training of the veterinary graduates of the faculty gives them the opportunity to realize themselves as:

• a veterinarian in a clinic for dogs and cats in Bulgaria or Europe

- veterinarian in a pig farm;

• veterinarian in a pig farm

• veterinarian in a poultry farm;

• veterinarian in a cow farm

• distributor of food and medicines for animals

• state vet. doctor at the BFSA or vet. laboratory;

• Inspector in the Food Control or Healthcare Department at the RFSD;

• veterinarian in a slaughterhouse or at the GMP and HACCP in an enterprise;

• assistant or doctoral student in the Navy;

Successful graduates can continue their studies in a variety of postgraduate specialization courses or the many doctoral programs available at the Navy, as well as engage in lifelong learning programs. In this way, they will be able to complement their existing knowledge and improve their qualifications for a better professional career.

Admission to the specialty „Ветеринарна медицина“ is carried out after ranking by score. 

The score is made up of the basic mark multiplied by 2 plus two additional marks.

1. Basic Score

The grade from a competitive entrance examination/test or from the State Baccalaureate Examination (BSE) of the candidate's choice. If the candidate has taken any of the examinations more than once or has taken more than one score-forming examination, the highest of all scores is included in the score.

Additional scoring are the grades in the diploma from the State Baccalaureate Examination (BSE) or from the compulsory preparation in the subject. If the diploma does not contain the required grades, the grades from the First Secondary School Certificate are used.

Note 1: If the main qualifying mark is from a competitive examination and there are two marks in a qualifying subject entered in the secondary education diploma, one of which is from a State Baccalaureate Examination (SBE) from 2008 onwards and the other from the Compulsory Preparation section, the additional qualifying mark shall be the mark from the state matriculation exam.

Note 2: In the formation of the competition score of prospective students whose secondary education diploma was issued before the introduction of the state matriculation examinations and who do not have a mark from the state matriculation examination in Bulgarian language and literature, the mark from the matriculation examination in Bulgarian language and literature or from the matriculation examination in general education oriented to the verification of competences in Bulgarian language and literature shall be taken as the score-forming mark.

Exam and application fees

Application fees for the academic year 2024/2025.: 

За първи изпит/тест таксата за кандидатстване е 60 лв. За всеки следващ изпит/тест е 55 лв.

The competition fee is waived for:

a/ persons with permanent disabilities and reduced working capacity of 70 per cent or more - certified by a decision of the TELK;

b/ round orphans up to the age of 25 years in the year of application - evidenced by the death certificates of the parents and the identity card of the prospective student.

c/ persons who, at the time of reaching the age of majority, are subject to a protection measure under the Child Protection Act - placement in a foster family, a residential social service or a specialized institution - certified by an official note from the respective home;

d/ war invalids and war victims;

e/ mothers (fathers) with three or more children - children's birth certificates and parent's ID card must be presented.

Twins pay half the fee when they both apply to TRU - birth certificates must be presented.
