The project is funded with the support of the European Union under the NATIONAL RECOVERY AND RESILIENCE PLAN, Component "Innovative Bulgaria," Investment 1 "Program for Accelerating Economic Recovery and Transformation through Science and Innovation," Procedure for Direct Grant Provision "Establishing a Network of Research Universities in Bulgaria."

The primary goal for the development of Trakia University (TrU) as an educational and research center is to enhance scientific and organizational-management infrastructure to increase the level of competence and stimulate research and publication activity among its academic staff. This includes focusing on established research fields such as agricultural and veterinary sciences, environmental sciences, medicine and biomedical sciences, pedagogical and social sciences. Additionally, the university aims to expand its expertise in new areas critical for the region and the country, such as computer science, mathematics, and renewable energy technologies. The university's ambition is to support the competitiveness of Bulgarian industry through partnerships with businesses and the practical application of research results.

The Strategic Research and Innovation Program for the development of Trakia University includes several interconnected elements, whose funding and implementation will enhance TrU's expertise and achievements:
