The Faculty of Medicine at Trakia University – Stara Zagora is participating in a large-scale initiative for the implementation of advanced technologies in secondary education. The university has developed specialized 3D models designed for the educational programs in biology, physics, chemistry, and mathematics at leading schools in the city: Geo Milev High School of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Romain Rolland Foreign Language High School, and Prof. Minko Balkanski Vocational High School of Computer Sciences and Mathematical Analysis.
The project is based on a unique and innovative approach for creating 3D models directly from patients’ clinical CT scans. Through precise processing of medical data, the university team transforms complex anatomical reality into accessible and interactive educational models. Detailed models of bones and internal organs have been developed. These models enable future medical professionals to study anatomy with a level of precision previously available only in university laboratories.
For the purposes of physics and chemistry education, specific physical models demonstrating the refraction of light have been developed. This was achieved through the use of the high-tech Formlabs Form 4B printer and the specialized Clear Resin V5 material. These transparent models allow students to observe optical phenomena and internal structures with crystal clarity, which is practically impossible using traditional methods.
This modernization is being implemented within the activities of the European Digital Innovation Hub Zagore (EDIH Zagore) as part of the project: “Synergy for Green Regional Digital Transformation of Southeast Bulgaria — SynGReDiT.”
The initiative is part of the broader strategy for the digital transformation of the Southeastern region. By connecting the academic achievements of Trakia University with the educational process in leading high schools, a sustainable bridge is being created between science and future professionals.
“Our goal is to provide students not only with textbooks, but with real exposure to the science of the future. By using patient data and additive manufacturing, we are transforming Stara Zagora into a center for innovative education,” the project team shared.
