Department for Information and In-Service Teacher Training is a core structural unit of Trakia University – Stara Zagora. The main principles guiding the Department's activities are the unity of tradition and modernity, and the reflection of contemporary trends in pedagogical practice.

Department for Information and In-Service Teacher Training is one of the first specialized units for the qualification of pedagogical specialists in Bulgaria, with a history spanning over 65 years. It is the successor to the Pedagogical School, the Semi-Higher Institute for Kindergarten Teachers, and the Institute for Teacher Improvement in Stara Zagora.

The main activity of DIITT is related to the qualification of pedagogical specialists.

Training and qualification activity

Long-term forms of postgraduate training have a duration of 12 and 18 months, utilizing a part-time mode of study. DIITT organizes and conducts long-term forms of postgraduate training courses for acquiring additional qualification and professional-pedagogical specializations leading to the award of the Third Professional Qualification Degree.

The qualification courses are short-term forms (16 and 32 teaching hours) of long-term form of postgraduate training with general pedagogical orientation, specialized qualification courses, workshops and trainings, language training.

The procedures for acquisition of professional qualification degrees by pedagogical specialists are conducted in accordance with Ordinance No. 15 of July 22, 2019. DIITT organizes procedures, consultative courses, group and individual consultations for all professional qualification degrees.

Research activity

Annually, DIITT organizes National Pedagogical Forum with International Participation. It has established itself as a venue for sharing and showcasing innovative teacher practices, while simultaneously supporting their career development and serving to build educational perspectives and policies in the field of education and qualification.
The Department publishes E-magazine "PEDAGOGICAL FORUM". The journal is refereed and indexed in the National Centre for Information and Documentation, as well as in global databases such as ERIHPLUS and RESEARCHGATE. In extraordinary issues of the Pedagogical Forum's e-journal, dozens of practicing teachers from across the country annually publish their research. DIITT's publishing activity includes textbooks, educational aids, and books, many of which are distributed free of charge.
