The Rector of Thrace University welcomed on a working visit to Thrace University Michael Jorgensen - founder of the organization "Bio/Zoo Information - Worldwide Zoo and wildlife service" and a specialist with many years of international experience in training employees working in zoos around the world. The reason for the visit was to discuss the possibilities of creating within the Thrace University a specialized training center aimed at the initial training and subsequent continuing training of employees who take care of animals in zoos, zoos, rescue centers, animal shelters, as well as working in pet stores. The idea is that the training programs should be aimed not only at specialists from our country, but also from the entire Balkan Peninsula. In addition to Thrace University, experts from the "Green Balkans" Wild Animal Rescue Center, the management of several zoos from all over the country, including the one in Stara Zagora, supported by the Municipality of Stara Zagora, are also behind the initiative.
During the visit, Mr. Jorgensen had the opportunity to look at Thrace University and meet with the deans of the Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine - Prof. Diyan Georgiev and Associate Professor Lazarin Lazarov, with whom he discussed in detail the various options for implementing the idea. Mr. Jorgensen was extremely impressed by the base and expertise that Thrace University has at its disposal, as well as by the presence of like-minded people in the face of the university leadership.
"I am extremely happy that a specialist like you sees Thrace University as a reliable partner for the implementation of such an innovative idea," said Prof. Yarkov during the meeting. "We will do everything necessary to work together in this direction and to have such a training center here as soon as possible, where specialists from the entire Balkan Peninsula can be trained."
