Prof. Krum Nedelkov The project is implemented in partnership between: ZI Stara Zagora, TU Sofia, Thracian University of Stara Zagora Short description of the project: The aim of this project is to combine elements of two innovative scientific areas, namely: in-vitro systems for assessing the energy value, degradability and quality of fiber and gases in the digestive process and metagenomic analysis as a means of qualitative and quantitative determination of the microbiome of the digestive system in large ruminants. The combined application of these two technologies would allow to achieve a new quality of fundamental knowledge in this field. The latter will allow fast, relatively cheap and reliable construction and testing of scientific hypotheses related to the efficiency of the digestive process in large ruminants. In this way, the theoretical possibilities for control of the emitted carbon emissions and for their modeling and management through the application of substances, molecules, food strategies, etc. will be studied. The expected results are related to the creation of a wide database for in vitro systems for assessing the energy value, degradability and quality of fibers and gases in the digestive process and the effectiveness of the microbiome on nutrient transformation and methanogenesis, through information from metagenomic analysis. The obtained knowledge base will serve as a methodological foundation for applied research to create innovative scientific and applied models for technological solutions in various fields.
